A free location is only the starting point

Put away answers more than where space is available. The warehouse also needs to know which zone suits the item, whether the pick face needs stock, and how the incoming goods are physically packed.

Renkei uses configurable storage strategies around item and item-group zone assignments, stock policies, existing inventory and location capacity.

Separate fast pick from bulk storage

Fast-pick locations support everyday order preparation. Bulk storage holds the balance without crowding the pick face. An incoming receipt may therefore need more than one destination.

For example, a receipt of 120 pieces could allocate 24 pieces to fast pick and 96 to bulk. This is an illustrative split: the right quantities depend on the configured policy, current stock and operational requirement.

Use zone types to express storage intent

Normal, fast-pick, bulk and pallet zones describe different storage purposes. An item or item-group assignment helps the strategy select the intended zone before choosing a location within it.

That keeps the decision consistent across receipts rather than leaving every operator to infer the correct storage area.

Check the destination and the handling unit

Within the selected zone, a suggested destination should account for existing stock, available capacity and the location’s operational permissions. The movement must also respect how the stock is held.

An intact pallet may belong in pallet storage. Moving a carton to fast pick may require an explicit pallet-opening step and a new carton HU. Loose quantities can move as stock at a location without requiring another HU.

Keep put away and replenishment connected

The receiving split and later replenishment should serve the same storage policies. Minimum and maximum fast-pick quantities help define how the pick face is supplied from bulk stock.

Put away places incoming stock appropriately. Replenishment keeps that arrangement useful as picking consumes it. Both need clear source, destination and quantity information for warehouse operators.
