Start with the physical receipt

A purchase order tells the warehouse what is expected. Receiving must establish what actually arrived, where it was received and how the stock will be handled next. In Renkei, the receiving workflow can start from a purchase order, container or ASN, with a receiving dock selected for the operation.

Operators identify the item and verify quantities. Differences belong in the receipt record so they can be reviewed; they should not disappear into a later stock movement.

Choose the right receiving mode

Not every receipt needs a handling unit. Loose stock can be received and tracked at a location. Cartons and pallets can be received as handling units when a physical grouping needs its own identity.

An HU identifies a unit of stock that can be handled together. The receiving approach may involve identical HUs, individual HUs or mixed HUs. The useful question is how the goods will be stored and moved, rather than whether every piece can be given another label.

Keep a pallet intact until it is opened

Consider a pallet containing ten cartons of ten pieces each. If the pallet remains intact, one pallet HU represents the physical unit. Creating independently movable child HUs before the cartons are separated would make the system imply a movement that the warehouse has not performed.

When the pallet is opened and cartons are moved independently, those cartons can become separate HUs. If the cartons are already separated during receiving, receive them as normal HUs from the outset.

Loose pieces do not need a new box identity

Removing five pieces from a carton does not create a new physical carton. The loose pieces can be tracked as item stock at the destination location. Item and location scans provide the operational context; an HU label is useful when there is an actual handling unit to identify.

This keeps traceability tied to the physical operation without forcing labels onto individual loose pieces.

Receiving prepares the next movement

Once the receipt is verified, put away must consider the location, zone and handling-unit state. Stock received at a dock that requires put away becomes work to move into storage.

A sound receipt gives the next task a clear item, quantity and handling context. That is the foundation for accurate warehouse execution.
