Begin with what must ship
Outbound execution starts with a requirement, before an operator begins picking. The shipping order establishes the items, quantities and order context that the warehouse needs to fulfill.
Keeping that requirement explicit gives the warehouse a consistent reference across planning, picking, packing and dispatch.
Translate the requirement into a plan
The plan prepares warehouse execution around the shipping requirement. It brings stock selection and the work to be carried out into the same outbound context.
A plan should make the warehouse handoff understandable: what stock is needed, what preparation must happen and how the completed work relates back to the requirement.
Use pick strategies and review the proposal
Pick strategies guide stock and location selection. The pick proposal brings proposed items, quantities and source locations together so availability and shortages can be reviewed before execution.
This is distinct from the physical pick. A proposal describes the intended stock selection; warehouse scans and confirmations establish what was actually picked.
Verify the pick and the packed contents
Operators need clear item, quantity and location context for picking. Barcode checks help verify the stock, while shortages should become visible exceptions rather than unexplained substitutions.
Packing then brings the picked stock together and verifies the contents. Carton or pallet identifiers and labels keep the prepared handling units recognizable at the next handoff.
Dispatch closes the warehouse handoff
At dispatch, the warehouse verifies the prepared stock or handling units at the dock and records the final handoff against the planned shipment.
Shipping Order → Plan → Dispatch separates the requirement, preparation and completion while keeping them connected. The value comes from a visible chain of warehouse decisions and confirmations, not just a final dispatched status.
